What am I talking about? This blog ofcourse. Two perennial slackers who decide to start a blog. Surely there must be some intricate thought process that went into making this here blog become a reality. Well my friends, no thinking went into this. None. I think we spent more time thinking about a name that rang a Bell (pun intended) to both of us. We wanted to come up with something that when people read it, they will be like "Ah, those two are at it again". And quite frankly, I am very proud of my cousin Best Yet, who did not give his real name so I won't, for having come up with the perfect name for something that is totally us.
"U'n Goin' Kill Me Pannuh!" What does it mean you ask? Glad you did, even though you give me even more work than I wanted. But hey, such is life. I am drifting away from the topic at hand, and even though I notice it, I'm not stopping. Ok, done. Well, yes. Basically, "U'n Goin' Kill Me Pannuh" means "You Are Not Going To Kill Me Partner" in our beautiful yet grossly grammatically incorrect way of speaking English. This way of speaking is generally easy to understand if you come from the Caribbean, like us. But to be more specific, we are from the beautiful and crime-ridden (yes, sadly, I'm being honest) island of Sint-Maarten/Saint-Martin. Located next to Saint-Barths and Anguilla for all the people who follow the rich and famous' lives and know that those islands are generally very frequented by those types. So yeah, we are the ugly duckling to those two, but in SXM is where it all goes down, please believe that.
U'n Goin' Kill Me Pannuh is something my cousin and I say to each other on a regular basis when we are clowning around. Usually, I would tell a joke and we would double with laughter, and he would add to it and so forth, and basically after a moment of hysterical laughter one of us will say to the next "Stop, cause u'n goin' kill me pannuh!" Translation: "Stop because you are not going to kill me partner" implying that by continuing the joke and making the next one laugh even harder can result in his death. Yeah, it's that serious.
U'n goin' kill me pannuh is also commonly used when someone is stressing you out, asking you to do something that would involve serious thinking or heavy lifting (aka work), in other words, a waste of time. So basically, you're telling them that you are not going to kill yourself for them. It's a nice(r) way of saying flat out "no", or even better "F-bomb off!". That is if saying such obsenities are your cup of tea.
So after coming up with several names, many of which made absolutely no sense to one or both of us, Best Yet came up with the brilliant (if I may say so myself) idea of naming it U'n Goin' Kill Me Pannuh. And for that my friend, I salute you.
Why did we start this blog? Because we can. Does that bother you? I don't care. Ok ok, well we always wanted to do something, seeing that we always tell each other these stories of things that go on in our lives on a daily basis, and we felt that it would be fun to be able to share this with other people, even if they find it amusing or not. So yeah, here we are. This can be a fun ride. Or, it can be a total disaster. A disaster of Hurricane Luis proportions. But that is how we roll. It never hurts to try. And this is us trying. Wish us luck.
I'm out.
P.S. Shout out to Jan for helping us come up with names for the blog. She suggested FTW which means the world to me (I don't use it as For The Win) but means absolutely nothing to Best Yet, so it would not do. But much appreciation going your way for your small but nonetheless important imput.
